How to Plan a Trip to Golden Triangle Tour

To make the planning process a little easier for you, we’ve created a 6-day Golden Triangle itinerary that includes all the best things to do, cities and attractions in India’s Golden Triangle.

India’s Golden Triangle offers visitors a way to immerse themselves in it all, while seeing three of the most visited countries in the northwest.

The Golden Triangle got its name from the geographical location of these three cities: Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, which form a triangle with a distance of about 200 km between them.

If you only have a week to spend in northern India, this itinerary covers as much ground as possible and gives you a great overview of the region. If you have extra time to spare, we recommend adding a few other stops along the way, which we’ll discuss below.

When to Visit the Golden Triangle?

In fact, there is no “bad” time to visit the Golden Triangle in India. All you need to pay attention to is the weather.

As with any other destination, the Golden Triangle area has the most pleasant weather window. In the Golden Triangle, this time is from October to mid-April, with temperatures in the 70-90°F range.

We visited the area in January and found it to be perfect weather for us. It wasn’t too hot or too cold. For beautiful photos, it is important that you are comfortable walking around outside and looking for good weather.

You may have heard that summers in India can be brutally hot. For this reason, we recommend avoiding the months of May and June, when temperatures can reach 115 degrees F.

Monsoon season is from July to September. Although heavy rain usually only happens in bursts, it can ruin your travel plans.

How to get to the Golden Triangle

The best way to travel between the cities of the Golden Triangle – Delhi, Jaipur and Agra – is by car. However, we do not recommend that you drive yourself in India if you have never driven there before.

Trust us, driving habits and rules are very different in India. The fastest, safest and most economical way to travel around the Golden Triangle is with a private driver.

We went with Kipling India Tours and it was great. The driver was very skilled and kept us safe even in terrible traffic. More on that in a minute.

Rail travel in India has never been more comfortable with a choice of air-conditioned first and second class coaches. Fares are low, so traveling across India by rail is a good option. For example, a train journey from Delhi to Agra takes about 2 hours and costs about 20 USD.

Golden Triangle Attractions in India

If you plan your own trip, you will need to hire a daily driver to take you from one place to another in each city.

The beauty of the Golden Triangle is that each direction has something special and unique. So, lace up your favorite hiking shoes and get ready to create unforgettable memories in North India.
